Kinzie Chop House is located under the Merchandise Mart brown line stop. If you were walking by, there's nothing about the exterior decor that would grab your attention. I've lived in the area for almost a year, pass by it every time I go to work, yet never had desires to try it. However, on one rainy, gloomy Chicago afternoon, I was looking for shelter and a bite to eat. I stumbled into the restaurant, nearly soaking wet and was greeted by a polite welcoming voice "Hello, welcome to Kinzie Chop House, would you care for a table for two?". When I finally shook off some excess water from my sweater, I looked around and saw a packed restaurant with mostly business people, dressed in suits. Even though I was under dressed and clearly looked out of place, she still treated me with the same respect and genuine hospitality as every single person that walked in or out of the restaurant. The host is one of the first people who come in contact with a guest and that interaction is the first impression guests make about the restaurant. We were seated at a booth by the host stand where we had a clear view of the entire restaurant and the front door. As I looked over the menu and picked out what I was going to have, I also watched the flow of service and how the dining room was set up. I was pleased to see how they were able to maximize the seating space, without overcrowding. Despite having a full house, conversation levels were kept low. Their lunch specials were a great value and looked delicious. I ended up ordering a grilled shrimp salad with goat cheese and roasted red and yellow peppers. My guest ordered the prime rib sandwich which was served with seasoned steak fries. I was more than please with the quality of shrimp and meat they used and seasoned fries are good in any form! Although my lunch trip to Kinzie Chop House was not intentional, I am glad I went because I cannot wait to go back and try their dinner items. Five stars for outstanding service and food, bravo!
